After working four years in New York, Obama moved to Chicago (hometown of his wife), where he was an active organizer of the community, in the south of the city, over a period of three years from June 1985 to May 1988.

It left Chicago for three years to study law at Harvard University. There, Obama was elected the first African American president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review and graduated with magna cum laude.
